Shard Inspector
The Shard Inspector shows when the Impact solver is active, or when a fractured shard is selected. It is collapsed by default.
With no shard selected
Section titled “With no shard selected”The panel asks you to select a fractured shard. It offers three display toggles:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Stream to Mesh Attributes | Writes live velocity, damage, cluster ID and sleep state into the shard meshes’ attributes on every step or bake, so you can inspect them in the Spreadsheet Editor and in Geometry Nodes. Off by default. |
| Bond Stress Lines | Draws 3D lines between bonded shards, colour-coded by tension and shear stress. |
| Proximity Bubbles | Draws wireframe spheres showing how far a moving trigger shard’s proximity wake detection reaches. |
With a shard selected
Section titled “With a shard selected”| Row | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Shard | Its index and object name. |
| Cluster | The macro cluster it belongs to. |
| Fracture depth | How many times it has been re-fractured: L0 is an original piece. |
| Plastic strain | Permanent deformation as a percentage, with yielding or elastic. |
While the simulation runs, these rows join them:
| Row | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Speed, Velocity, Spin | Live motion. |
| State | Anchor (pinned), Asleep or Awake, with kinematic when it is keyframed. |
| Proximity timer | The wait before a held piece is released. |
| Will shatter | Whether the shard would shatter if it hit something now, and why not. A shard at depth 0 or 1 shatters at speeds of 7.5 m/s or more (the default Shatter Speed). |
Without a running simulation the panel says the shard is at rest.
Glue bonds lists how many of the shard’s bonds are intact and how many are broken. For up to six neighbours it shows each one as snapped, a stress percentage, or intact.
Buttons
Section titled “Buttons”| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Wake | Wakes the shard from sleep in the live solver. |
| Sleep | Puts it to sleep and zeroes its velocity. |
| Kinematic | Toggles between fixed or keyframed and dynamic. |
