Introduction

BLUX Physics Suite adds GPU physics simulation to Blender. It covers granular materials, liquids, smoke and fire, and rigid-body fracture, and it caches and renders the results with Blender’s own tools.

Every setting, force and collider lives in a node. The sidebar panels edit and display that graph, so you can work from either place and see the same values. A simulation is a graph: emitters, forces and colliders feed a solver node, and the solver feeds a Simulation Output node that decides how results are cached and displayed.

Solver Method Use it for
Atom Moving Least Squares Material Point Method sand, snow, jelly, slime, viscous fluid, lava
Hydro Particle-based incompressible liquid liquids, fountains, whirlpools, buoyancy
Blaze Eulerian grid smoke and fire campfires, fireballs, smoke plumes, thrusters
Impact Rigid bodies on Extended Position Based Dynamics (XPBD) Voronoi fracture, demolition, plastic crumple

All four are written in Taichi and run on your GPU.

Material Model
Sand Drucker-Prager frictional plasticity
Elastic Neo-Hookean hyperelastic, with optional tearing
Snow Elastoplastic with fracture
Fluid Weakly-compressible viscous liquid
Lava Thermo-viscous, temperature-driven solidification
  • Wrangles. Short pieces of code that run on the GPU for every particle or every gas voxel, written in a Python-like language with @ attributes. See Wrangles.
  • Liquid surface meshing. Hydro and Atom liquids become production meshes, baked frame by frame and streamed back through Geometry Nodes.
  • Whitewater. Spray, foam and bubbles generated on the GPU from the liquid.
  • Blaze upres. Wavelet turbulence re-advects smoke and fire at 2x, 3x or 4x the simulation resolution in bakes.
  • Particles and gas together. A Blaze solver can run beside any particle solver, and the two can drive each other.
  • Lookdev presets. Turnkey materials for fire, smoke, water, honey, mud, lava, concrete, brick and glass.
  • Templates. Ready-made scenes for every solver.

The solvers do not run inside Blender’s own Python. BLUX starts a separate worker process that has Taichi installed, and talks to it over a loopback connection on your own machine (127.0.0.1). Results come back to Blender through shared memory and the disk cache. This is why the installation has a second step: giving BLUX a Python that has the GPU runtime.

  1. Check the requirements.
  2. Install the extension and the solver Python.
  3. Open the preferences and run Check Solver Environment.
